Suggesting a Super Bowl loss can be avenged somehow during the following regular season is one way to confirm that someone doesn’t grasp the concept of magnitude.
The Patriots’ season-opening 13-10 loss to the Seahawks was frustrating in a bushel of ways. Had they won — and if not for a hideous fourth quarter from quarterback Drake Maye, they almost surely would have — it would have been a swell way to begin the season. What it would not have been is payback for the Seahawks’ 29-13 thumping in Super Bowl LX.
This week, though? There is a chance for vengeance of an appropriate measure. In Week 3 last season, the Patriots fumbled five times, losing four, in a 21-14 loss to the Steelers.
It was a frustrating loss at the time. Little did we know then that they’d lose just one more time in the regular season.
