Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Brendan J. Cahill as the new bishop of Joliet, the diocese announced today. Cahill is currently a bishop in Victoria, Texas, a position he has held since 2015. He will be the seventh bishop of Joliet.

Cahill’s predecessor as bishop of Joliet, Bishop Ronald Hicks, was named archbishop of New York late last year in one of the new pope’s biggest appointments to date.

Illinois American Water said its proposed rate increase is necessary to tackle aging infrastructure, replace lead service lines and build more resilient systems as the climate changes and communities grow. Owners of West Suburban and Weiss reach agreement over control of the hospitals, after months in court
