On July 16, 2026, the U.K. government announced it will introduce regulations under the Food Safety Act 1990 to prohibit the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks in England to children under the age of 16. The government proposed the regulations following a 12-week public consultation launched in September 2025. The proposed ban would cover drinks containing 150 milligrams or more of caffeine per liter, except for tea and coffee. All retailers, restaurants, cafes, and online vendors would be barred from selling the drinks, and the sale of these products in vending machines would also be prohibited.
