The author of this piece seems to have read books from evangelicalism’s critics in their entirety. Good! But for me, it sure looks like he decided to work solely off one book review and my 800-word op-ed at The Washington Post. Less good! Had he bothered to give me the same consideration he gave those other writers, he’d know I’ve addressed in the book exactly what he claims I don’t address. His objection to the survey evidence I shared from The Great Dechurching—that when people tell pollsters about good things they aspire to do, this doesn’t prove they’re actually doing those things—is a good point, though. In fact, it’s such a good point that I made it in my book.
