Yeah so I was on the phone with my sister last night and she brought up that whole thing about the community garden plot. Apparently the coordinator sent out a note asking if anyone would be willing to take over the herb section since the previous person moved away in the spring. I told her I could probably do every other weekend but not every single Saturday because I have that continuing ed class on pottery. She said that was fine and that her neighbor might help with the watering during the week since he works from home most days. We talked about what to plant for the autumn and she suggested maybe trying some rosemary and thyme since they hold up pretty well when the temperature drops. I mentioned I had some leftover seed packets from the spring that I never got around to using, mostly basil and some oregano. She thought that was a good start and said the soil probably needs a little attention first before we put anything new in. There was also some discussion about whether to trim back the tomato plants that are still hanging around or just let them go a bit longer. I think they might have another few weeks if the weather stays mild. She said she would check with the coordinator about getting the key to the tool shed so we can grab the hand tiller and some gloves. I might swing by the hardware store this weekend to pick up a new pair of pruners because mine are getting dull. Itll be good to get outside a bit more before it gets too cold.

So my coworker asked me yesterday if I had ever tried making pasta from scratch and I told her I did once a few years ago and it turned out okay but I probably didnt knead it long enough. She said she found a recipe that only uses two cups of flour and three eggs and it comes together in about ten minutes. I mentioned I was a little nervous about rolling it thin enough without a proper pasta machine and she said a regular rolling pin works fine if you have enough space on the counter. She also suggested letting the dough rest for at least half an hour under a bowl so it becomes easier to work with. I asked if she ever adds any oil or salt to the dough and she said she usually skips the oil but adds a pinch of salt to the flour before mixing. We talked about drying the noodles and she said you can just drape them over a clean towel or the back of a chair for a couple of hours. I think I might give it another try on Sunday if I can find my old rolling pin in the back of the pantry. She offered to send me the recipe link but I said I would look it up myself. It might be a fun way to use up some of the flour I bought a while back.
