Good evening, Herndon Elementary School Families,
It has been a productive week at Herndon Elementary School. Our students have continued settling into classroom routines, building relationships, and engaging in meaningful learning across all grade levels.
This week, our staff focused on:
- Strengthening literacy and language instruction through classroom walkthroughs, collaborative planning, and grade-level collaboration
- Supporting student success through MTSS, multilingual learner data meetings, and planning for students’ individual needs
- Deepening our use of inclusive practices, including co-teaching models and high-leverage strategies that support multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and all students
- Preparing for student success through sixth-grade planning, AVID, and college and career readiness activities
- Practicing our safety procedures during a schoolwide lockdown drill
Our all-staff learning this week reinforced the importance of shared responsibility for student success. Staff reflected on how intentional co-planning, predictable routines, clear learning targets, and inclusive instructional strategies help every student access rigorous learning and feel a strong sense of belonging.
We are grateful for the partnership of our students, staff, and families as we continue creating a safe, welcoming, and academically focused school community. Thank you for encouraging your child to attend school regularly, arrive prepared to learn, and make positive choices each day.
As we look ahead, please review upcoming school dates and reminders in the FCPS and Herndon Elementary School calendars. We hope your family enjoys the upcoming Labor Day holiday, and we look forward to welcoming students back ready for another strong week of learning.
With appreciation,
Dr. Monika Vereb Principal,

 Welcoming Ms. Vasquez
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Sudie Vasquez as Herndon Elementary School’s newest assistant principal. Ms. Vasquez will support our kindergarten, first-grade, and sixth-grade teams. She brings extensive experience in instructional leadership, advanced academics, multilingual learner support, and family partnerships. Ms. Vasquez will be on site beginning September 8 and officially begin her role on September 14. We are excited for the care, expertise, and student-centered leadership she will bring to our school community.
 Safety First
Parent Reminder: For your child’s safety, please ensure they are secured in an age- and size-appropriate car seat or booster seat while traveling on the roads.
Cell phone use is not permitted while driving on school grounds or in the Kiss & Ride area. Thank you for helping keep our students safe!
