Principal's Message

We're coming to you a day early due to the school holidays on Friday and Monday.

Thank you to our MS families who joined us this week for Back to School Night. As principal, I enjoy meeting our new families and seeing returning families once again. Our connection with our families is important to us, and we encourage you to reach out to your student's teachers, counselors, or administrators if you have any questions or just wish to chat. For families who were unable to attend Back to School Night, teachers and staff will have their presentation materials and information available on Schoology.

Looking ahead to next week, we have several exciting events on the schedule. Join us on Thursday night for our first home football game of the season! Before kickoff, we are hosting our Pyramid Carnival on the front field, and we are thrilled to welcome our pyramid elementary school families to campus for the festivities. Please remember that students do have school on Friday following the game. Additionally, Middle School picture days will take place on Thursday and Friday during your student's PE classes.

Early Pick-ups

Please help us have your students ready if you are coming to pick up early, by either sending in a note or calling ahead of time. The phone numbers are listed below. 

Also, if you are picking up in the afternoon, please be aware that buses start lining up in our parking lot as early as 1:45.

PSAT/SAT School Day

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!  PSAT/SAT School Day is coming on October 7.  This will be an early release schedule for 7th and 8th grade students, 9th grade does not attend school, 10th and 11th are scheduled for the PSAT and registered 12th grade students take the SAT.  Details coming soon.

Lockers

The online request form for student lockers will officially be available on Schoology starting Tuesday, September 8th. Requests will be processed as they are received. Students will receive a confirmation email once a locker has been assigned and will be able to access their locker information in Schoology.

Attendance Information

Here are our policies regarding attendance. The assigned offices and phone numbers are shown below.

If you need to report a full-day absence, please do one of the following:

  • report the absence through SIS ParentVUE (preferred)
  • call the Subschool Attendance line and leave a message
  • send a note with your child prior to the day of absence

If you need to report a late arrival:

  • call the Subschool Attendance line and leave a message

If you need to request an early pick-up, please do one of the following:

  • send a note with your child to deliver to the Subschool before 8:00 am (preferred)
  • call the Subschool office line and leave a message.
  • please note that parents/guardians of middle school students will be required to come into the Main Office to show ID.

We have a change in our Middle School Subschools this year: they are now assigned by alphabet instead of by grade:

  • Last name A-K is Subschool 1 (703-426-1110)
  • Last name L-Z is Subschool 2 (703-426-1120)

Student Photos

Our student photos days for 7th-12th grade are:

  • Middle School:  September 10 and 11
  • High School:  September 17 and 18

7th-10th graders will take their pictures during their PE classes and 11th graders will take their pictures during their English classes.

If you are interested in helping in the main office with photocopying for teachers, please email Ebonee Fleming in our Main Office.

Cell Phone Policy

Due to a new VA law passed earlier this year, FCPS has implemented a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy across all grade levels. This means no cell phones, cell phone accessories, and smart devices (including AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and smart glasses) must be turned off and personally stored in a backpack or locker away by all students for the entire school day.

If you need to reach your student for any reason during the school day, please call their subschool and they will relay a message for you.

The Class of 2027 is currently collecting pre-orders for class t-shirts. The deadline to have a shirt be a part of the first order is Friday, September 5. Orders can be placed through my school bucks and buyers can select white, purple, or black shirts. T-shirts cost $15.

High School Student Services will be holding college information sessions on Tuesday, September 8 and Thursday, September 10 during Bruin Block.

Tuesday, September 8:  Four-Year College Session in the Little Theatre at 8:20am

Thursday, September 10:  NOVA Session in the Lecture Hall at 8:20am

Students have the opportunity to attend both sessions if they choose.  Students who are not interested in attending either session above should remain in their Advisory class for the ENTIRE period.

Additional optional sessions on apprenticeship and military options will take place later in the school year

Home Football Game Information

Tickets: 

Seating, Parking & Entry:

  • Limited parking available, park in designated spots only.
  • Elementary and middle schoolers must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Entry through main gate at top of stairs or side gate by lower turf.
  • No re-entry.
  • Students must be picked up within 30-minutes of the end of the game.

What You Can Bring:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or pvc bags no larger than 12" x 6" x 12"
  • Small clutch bag no larger than 6.5" x 4.5"
  • Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection

What's Not Allowed:

  • Backpacks
  • Purses
  • Fanny packs
  • Tote bags
  • Outside food and beverages
  • Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
  • Any item prohibited by FCPS Policy, or determined by event staff to present safety concerns

Halftime Fun:

  • Enjoy performances by the LB Marching Band and Lake Braddock Varsity Dance Team!

Spectator Code of Conduct:

  • Be a good sport and show positive behavior.
  • No abusive language, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs.
  • Stay in your designated seat and off the field.
  • Respect players, coaches, fans, and officials.
  • Remember - it's about the kids! Let the coaches coach and officials officiate.
  • Follow directions from staff and security.
  • Failure to comply may result in removal from future games.

Save the Date: Community Conversations with Superintendent Reid

Your voice matters, and Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid wants to hear from you! At FCPS, parents are partners, working with us to set our students up for long-term success at school and in life. 

A series of Community Conversations will be held across the school division. You are invited to share your thoughts with Dr. Reid and ask her questions. Events are planned for the following dates at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted):

Registration links will be shared soon. Childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Events are one-hour long and open to all. Find out about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.

Safety Drills During the School Year

Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and extreme weather. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance. 

The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Preschool and kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill. 

Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your child before and after school lockdown drills.

FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.
