Dear Olde Creek Families,
We had a wonderful turnout for Back to School Night last night! If you were unable to attend, teachers will share their presentation slides in today’s newsletters for families to review. You can also find welcome videos from our school board members and Superintendent Dr. Reid here.
Tonight is the Cav Carnival at Woodson High School from 4:30–6:30 p.m. for students in grades K–6. There will be lots of fun activities, and we hope to see many of you there!
As we head into Labor Day weekend, please remember that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, September 4, or Monday, September 7. We hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend!

Meet Our Family Liaison,
Alexis Polo!
Hi! My name is Alexis Polo, and I’m so excited to be here at Olde Creek ES as a Family Liaison! I have a background in community outreach, case management, and supporting individuals and families. I’m passionate about connecting with people and helping others, which is one of the things that drew me to this role. As your Family Liaison, I hope to be a familiar and welcoming face for our families, help connect you with resources and support, and make sure you always feel comfortable reaching out when you have questions or need assistance! I love traveling, experiencing new cultures and spending time with my family and friends.

Student ID Cards for Olde Creek Bus Riders
We are beginning the process of distributing student ID cards to our students who ride the school bus.
ID cards will be attached to your child’s backpack for easy tapping.
Students will begin tapping as they board and exit the bus. Only students who use FCPS transportation services will be provided with a student ID card at this time.
We ask for your patience! Bus drivers are checking in students and may need some extra time at each bus stop while they do this. The transportation team is working hard to minimize any potential delays.

Limited Early Release Wednesdays for Elementary Schools
Early release Wednesdays will start in September 2026. Each elementary school will have four of these early release days throughout the school year, and lunch will be provided. Learn more and view dates for early release Wednesdays
Olde Creek will have four, 3-hour early release days (release time is 12:15) on the following dates:
- September 30th
- November 18th
- January 13th
- April 7th
Parents and caregivers may use the Online Verification/Update (OVU) packet in SIS ParentVUE to confirm whether or not child care on the four early release Wednesdays will be needed. If your plans change during the school year, please notify the front office.
If you are unable to access the OVU via ParentVue please take a moment to complete THIS GOOGLE FORM, managed by Olde Creek, so we can learn about dismissal plans for September 30th.
Advanced Academics Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. A continuum of Advanced Academic Program (AAP) services is available to students in Grades K-12 and is designed to match services to each student’s unique academic needs.
Identification for Subject-Specific and Part-Time AAP services occurs throughout the school year. Full-Time AAP services have two identification cycles:
- Fall identification: Students in grades 3-7 who have enrolled in FCPS since January may be referred by October 15, 2026.
- Spring identification: Any FCPS student in Grades 2-7 may be referred by December 15, 2026.
FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration in the holistic identification process for AAP services.
- All students in Grade 2 take the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT).
- Students in Grades 3-6 who do not have a multi-domain ability test score take the NGAT.
- Students in Grades 3-6 may retake an ability test one time. Families may request the ability test retake by contacting Kristin Judy, School Testing Coordinator, at KLJudy1@fcps.edu by September 30.
Families are invited to attend the AAP information meeting, led by Sharon Smith, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART). The meeting will be held on Thursday, October 1st from 5:30 - 6:30 PM in the Olde Creek library.

Family Life Education Instructional Program Information
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) provides a comprehensive, sequential Family Life Education (FLE) program for students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve. Instruction is seen as a partnership among parents and guardians, the school, and the community in supporting the learning essential to the development of strong families, positive relationships, and a healthy community.
Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of all or part of the Family Life Education program. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate, nonpunitive alternative health instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choices. If you wish to opt your child out of all or part of FLE for this school year, opt out forms are available in Parent Digital Consent. Paper opt-out forms are available from your child’s school. Students receiving special education services and accessing modified curriculum will receive a printed opt-out form for modified FLE lessons.
Detailed grade-level program descriptions are available online at Elementary (K-6).. FLE grade level-specific lessons and media that FCPS has streaming rights for are available for parents online in Schoology. Due to copyright permissions, we are unable to stream all media online.

Safety Drills During the School Year
Keeping students and staff safe is a priority for FCPS. Each school has an emergency preparedness plan to respond to incidents such as fires and extreme weather. Schools are required by state law to practice emergency drills, including lockdown drills, each year. Schools are also required to notify parents and guardians at least 24 hours before a school conducts a lockdown drill. However, schools are not required to give the specific date and time of the drill in advance.
The first lockdown drill of the school year must take place within the first 20 days of school. Kindergarten students are exempt from practicing the first lockdown drill.
Your child may come home and talk about their experience during the drill. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Please review these frequently asked questions to support your child before and after school lockdown drills.

FCPS uses specific terminology to describe the actions school staff and students should take to ensure safety in a variety of situations. It is important for staff, families, and students to understand what the different terms mean and how they impact school operations.

If students, staff, or families have a safety concern at school (that is not an immediate emergency), they should submit a tip to the FCPS Safety Tipline. In an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

Laps for Learning Saturday October 3, 2026
Register for Laps for Learning by Tuesday September 15th. Olde Creek's annual fun-run and PTA fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd.
Donations are accepted from all!
Students can earn: Raffle Tickets, Grade and School-Wide Incentives
Businesses can sponsor Laps for Learning. Businesses that donate may get the option for their logo printed on Laps for Learning T-shirts.
This is Olde Creek's biggest fundraiser of the year and fun event for the whole family! We look forward to seeing you there!

Register Now for Fall After School Clubs
OCES PTA clubs are back! Most clubs will be run by OCES teachers. However, chess, drama, and art will still be managed by independent contractors.
Clubs will run from 3:25-4:25 p.m. They begin the week of September 14th and run 8-10 weeks (end dates vary by club). Registration closes one week prior to the club’s start date and the deadline is firm.

Students go directly to clubs after dismissal at 3:15 p.m., unless they are in SACC. SACC students check-in at SACC, then are escorted to clubs and back to SACC when clubs end. Cav Carnival
Community Update: Pyramid Night & New Stadium Security Procedures
We are thrilled to welcome our entire community this Thursday for Pyramid Night! The festivities will begin with our annual Cav Carnival, followed by the tradition of the field run prior to the football game. We are also honored to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for our brand-new scoreboard. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, we are introducing several important security updates this season, including the implementation of weapons screenings at all stadium entrances.
To facilitate these enhancements, we have updated our entry and exit policies. We want to ensure our community is fully informed of these protocols before joining us for what promises to be a wonderful celebration of school spirit. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we implement these vital safety measures.
Key Policy Changes
- Stadium Entrances: Attendees may enter the stadium via the main entrance near the parking lot or the Frost Middle School entrance.
- Screening & Re-entry: Screenings will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the start of the Cav Carnival. Please note that once you have entered the stadium, re-entry is not permitted. Concessions will be available for purchase, and water stations will be provided throughout the carnival.
- Student Supervision: All elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the "no re-entry" policy, students may not leave the stadium to meet parents, and parents will not be able to enter briefly just to check on students.
- Entry Cutoff: For security purposes, entry to the stadium is only permitted until the end of halftime. No further entry will be allowed after this time.
- Screening Process: Our screening is non-intrusive. If a guest does not pass the initial screening, they will be asked to return any prohibited items to their vehicle before being re-screened. Small items like keys and stadium seats can be passed around the towers during the process.
Prohibited Items
The following items are strictly prohibited inside the stadium:
- Standard bags (backpacks, purses, fanny packs, and tote bags)
- Outside food and beverages
- Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
- Any item prohibited by FCPS policy or deemed a safety concern by staff
Approved Bags
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags (no larger than 12” x 6” x 12”)
- Small clutch bags (no larger than 6.5” x 4.5”)
- Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection
