Although he's reluctant to acknowledge it, it has been a humbling few days for the US president, our correspondent Anthony Zurcher writes. There was a flawed attempt to renovate a Washington landmark, questions about his pick to head the justice department and increasingly complicated efforts to end the war in Iran. As Anthony explains, many of these issues are of Trump's own doing, and his response of constructing his own reality with "alternative facts" has felt very familiar. A marked difference, however, is that the opposition he has faced has come from his own ranks, even those who have proven themselves most loyal to him. 

Tens of thousands of foreigners have left South Africa over the past two months as anti-immigrant protests intensify. Among them is 47-year-old Richard Itoro, who boarded one of the voluntary repatriation flights to Nigeria in June after fearing for his and his family's safety. Now, he does not know when he'll see his wife and twin children again. His is just one of many stories that are stoking diplomatic tension.
