If you're like most shooters, you've shot without ear pro and figured "one time won't hurt". But hearing damage is cumulative, and indoors, around walls, every unsuppressed shot pushes you further past the safe threshold. An unsuppressed 9mm peaks at around ~160 dB. The damage threshold is 140 dB. Now add a hallway, a bedroom, or the inside of your car: hard surfaces reflect the sound back at you, adding another 5 to 10 dB. Do the math. The good news? A suppressor brings that down to a much safer level, so you're not destroying your ears with every shot.
