Whether you’re counting down the days until school starts again or not quite ready to let go of summer, this week’s newsletter includes a little something for everyone.
This edition includes information about the new ParentVUE mobile app, featuring a more secure sign-in; new student ID cards to support student safety and transportation; the updated FCPS cellphone policy; and no-out-of-pocket-cost immunization events to help students receive the vaccinations required for school attendance.
You’ll also find highlights from the opening ceremony of the Fairfax County 4-H Fair and the Tysons 150 documentary premiere, recognition of Providence District students who earned statewide academic honors, the August lineup of free, family-friendly performances in the Providence Presents concert series, information about careers with FCPS, and upcoming School Board meetings.

Providence Presents: Tysons 150 Documentary Premiere
It was a pleasure to join Supervisor Dalia Palchik and community members for a wonderful evening exploring the story of Tysons. We enjoyed a fascinating documentary tracing Tysons’ remarkable evolution from a rural crossroads where cows once roamed to the dynamic, growing community it is today. With Tysons’ population projected to continue growing and with more families expected in the years ahead, FCPS is prepared to welcome new Providence District students and serve the Tysons community as it continues to evolve.
Fairfax County 4-H Fair
What a great day at the Fairfax County 4-H Fair where I had the opportunity to tour the fairgrounds at Frying Pan Park, meet amazing 4-H students and their families, say hello to the animal ambassadors, and congratulate the newly crowned 2026 4-H Fair Queen and King. I’m grateful for the Fairfax County 4-H program, Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Fairfax County Park Authority, the volunteers, and the many 4-H families and participants who make this fair such a special community tradition and showcase the learning, leadership, and community that 4-H inspires.
Providence District Student Achievements
Congratulations to the FCPS teams and individuals who were winners and runners-up in the Class 6 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Academic Championships. I am proud to recognize the Providence District students who were among the champions:

Providence Presents Summer Concert Series
The “Providence Presents” Summer Entertainment Series, presented by Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik and the Fairfax County Park Authority, offers free family-friendly performances throughout the summer.

Planning Ahead for the New School Year
New ParentVUE Mobile App
A new ParentVUE mobile app is now available in the Apple and Google app stores. This new app provides parents and caregivers with a more secure sign-in.
The current “classic” app will remain active for about six months. Families must download the new app by December 2026 to ensure they continue to have mobile access to their child’s school data.
In the new app, families can enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA) for FCPS Single Sign-On. While enrollment is optional, we strongly recommend that everyone enable this security feature.

The FCPS mobile app offers a customized platform to help keep you connected and informed, directly from your smartphone. Download the FCPS mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
With the app, you can:
- View school calendars. See events, activities, holidays, and early dismissals.
- Check school menus. See what’s for lunch and breakfast each school day.
- Tap to contact. Quickly call attendance lines or email school staff.
- Stay up to date. Get the latest news from FCPS.
- Access key links. Jump to ParentVUE, Schoology, and the FCPS website in one tap.

New Student ID Cards Coming This Fall
This fall, every FCPS student will receive a student identification (ID) card as part of a divisionwide effort to modernize school transportation, improve communication with families, and strengthen student safety while traveling to and from school.
Every student who rides the school bus will need to tap on and tap off the bus every day using their new student ID card. Families can help by reinforcing this new habit with their child.
Schools will hand out the new student ID cards during the first few weeks of school. More details will be shared soon.

Updated Cellphone Policy
Senate Bill 108 is a new Virginia law that went into effect on July 1. It requires that all schools in the state follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy and prohibit the possession and use of cellphones for the entire school day. The updated FCPS Cellphone Policy aligns with this law, which means high school students are no longer permitted to use cellphones, cellphone accessories, or smart devices (such as smart glasses, earbuds, headsets, and other items connected to a phone) during lunchtime.
Across all grade levels, cellphones, cellphone accessories, and all smart devices must be turned off and stored personally for the duration of the school day. Watches that serve a dual purpose (like a smartwatch) must be turned off and stored personally for the duration of the school day, too. Personal devices that connect to a cellphone or cellphone accessory, or that operate as a smart device, must also follow the FCPS Cellphone Policy.
This policy does not apply to school-issued devices. However, school-issued devices must be used in accordance with FCPS Regulation 6410, the Acceptable Use Policy, which permits their use for educational purposes. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
School Supply Lists
Elementary school supply lists for the new school year are posted online. Each elementary school has supply lists posted on the school’s website. Middle and High schools often provide these on their websites or to students upon their return to school.
Summer Immunization Events for All FCPS Students
Inspire Health Alliance, in partnership with FCPS, is offering school-required immunizations this summer. Immunizations will be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to students or families. Upcoming Immunization Clinic Dates for FCPS students include:

The Fairfax County Health Department’s annual back-to-school immunization push is underway. To help parents ensure their children are ready for the upcoming school year, dedicated school immunization hours, including expanded evening hours, are now available at the Herndon-Reston, Annandale, Franconia-Springfield, and Mount Vernon Public Health Centers. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. [Back-to-school clinic dates, times, and locations].

Give Your Kids a Strong Start: Apply for Early Childhood Education Programs
FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children ages 6 weeks to 4 years living in Fairfax County with economic and educational risk factors.
The pre-K program prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30. Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from expectant mothers and parents/guardians of children ages 6 weeks to 2 years.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. However, space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are accepted online, by email, by postal mail (printable application), or in person at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
