REVISED: School Information and Dates

Please disregard the email from earlier today as the date for Back to School Night was incorrect.

Dear Clermont Families,

On behalf of the entire staff at Clermont Elementary School, we would like to welcome you to the new school year! We hope you are enjoying the last bits of summer vacation and are looking forward to an exciting school year.

Clermont’s wonderful teaching staff and support personnel want to make sure that each child is successful. Our goal is to encourage each student to achieve their full potential by instilling in them a love of learning. We are all here to support your child and believe that everyone shares the responsibility for the academic success of our Eagles.

Open House

Open House will be held in-person on Thursday, August 20.

Last Names A - L   2:00 pm – 2:45 pm

Last Names M – Z  3:00 pm – 3:45 pm

When you arrive for Open House, classroom assignments will be posted for you to see prior to coming into the school. Open House is a time to meet the teacher and see the classroom. You may request a conference with your child’s teacher to discuss concerns specifically related to your child which can be set up at a time other than our Open House. Students, parents, and guardians are invited to find and visit their classrooms, and drop off school supplies, during Open House.

First Day of School

Clermont Staff Members will be available to help students find their classroom on the first day of school, Monday, August 24. Doors to school will open at 8:50 am, and school officially begins at 9:05 am. The Parent-Guardian Handbook will be shared soon, and has more information about school arrival/dismissal times, as well as other useful information about our school.

We take the security of our students and our school very seriously. Every visitor/adult who enters the building is monitored. As per the recommendation from FCPS’s Office of Safety and Security, after ringing the doorbell, office staff will kindly ask visitors, “Hi, how may I help you?” in order to obtain the purpose of the guest’s visit. There are two sets of locked glass doors. Office staff will have to release both the first and second sets of locked, automatic doors to provide entry. All visitors walking into Clermont ES must come to the office with a valid driver’s license and sign in on the designated iPad. The iPad will issue each visitor a sticker that must always be worn when in the building.

Because of our concern for safety along with our desire to begin establishing important routines on the first day of school, we do not allow parents to walk children to classrooms on the first day of school, with the exception of our kindergarten students.  On the first day of school, kindergarten parents may walk their child to the gym, where the kindergarten team will be waiting to help our youngest Eagles get to the correct classroom. We recognize that this special, first day of school is sometimes hard for parents, too, and we would not want to deny you that opportunity to take just one last picture on this special day!

In addition to the safety of all our students and staff, starting the year with established routines is essential to helping students thrive. Therefore, we ask parents of students in Grades 1 – 6 to please say “goodbye” at the front door. We will have plenty of staff on hand to help your child find their classroom once they are inside the building. We do appreciate your understanding as to why we are firm with this policy, and we are happy to answer any further questions you may have as to the safety of your child.

We are encouraging parents and guardians to use the Kiss and Ride lane if your child is not a walker or is not using FCPS bus transportation. Kiss and Ride is a safe and efficient way to drop your child off at school in the morning and pick your child up at dismissal time.

If your child is a bus rider, information about bus stops and pick up times will be sent directly to you from our office of transportation a few days before school starts.

Back to School Night (date corrected)

Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 9 (which will not conflict with Edison High School on 9/8).

Session 1               6:00 pm

Session 2               6:50 pm

There are two sessions to accommodate parents with multiple children. Teachers will email additional details closer to the date of the event.

School Supplies

If you have not already purchased your child’s school supplies through the PTA’s online program, you can do so at this link: School Supplies

If you choose to purchase your own supplies, individual grade level school supply lists can be found on the Clermont ES website https://clermontes.fcps.edu/.  Click on the “Full Menu”, then select “Academics” and then scroll down to “School Supply Lists”. You are encouraged to bring your child’s school supplies to Open House.

Celebrations at School

Please note that due to significant food allergies in our building, and various communicable diseases, birthday and other celebrations at Clermont ES are non-food-related. Please do not plan to send food in to share with your child’s class for birthdays or other events. Items like pencils, erasers, a donated book, an indoor recess game for the classroom, or arranging with your child’s teacher to read a book to the class are great alternatives to food.

Communication

As we move into this new school year together, we want to be sure that the Clermont Families know that we are looking forward to meeting everyone and building partnerships with the families. Your administrative team is Principal Roxanne Salata and Assistant Principal Trevia Younger. We can be reached most easily via email at rsalata@fcps.edu and tryounger@fcps.edu .

Most communications you will receive from us will be in the form of email through the Eaglegram, or other News You Choose emails. Please make sure we have your correct email address on file.

We look forward to a safe and healthy year ahead! We are excited to continue to build up our Clermont Community through our commitment to a home-school partnership.

Sincerely,

Ms. Salata             Mrs. Younger
