Remember when Trump’s people arrested a man who put his hand in the Washington D.C. Reflecting Pool just to see what the damage was? Then they charged him with vandalism. Trump claimed that night that “Radical Left Lunatics, most likely Dumocats [sic], who have spent their lives trying to ruin our Country,” for “some real problems with Vandalism at the beautiful Reflecting Pool.” By the next day, he was blaming “multiple individuals for vandalizing our Nations magnificent Reflecting Poll [sic]. Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments. Years in jail! Work will begin immediately on its repair.” They lied. Now the charges have been dropped and Trump’s people say it was the contractors who caused the damage to the pool. Yet Trump posted on social median: “I disagree 100% with Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, on the Reflecting Pool. I don’t know what she was thinking? To me, it was a pure case of VANDALISM…. There may have been some contractor difficulty, but the major damage was caused by VANDALS! President DJT” Clearly, he seeks to confuse those who aren’t paying attention. And, the evil genius that he is, he has made it so that so many people don’t want to pay attention. He is manipulating not only the truth, but the news cycle and America’s attention span. Although not for trying, Trump is unable to manipulate the Iranians into ending the war he started. Last week it looked like the war was beginning to expand in the region. Today, jerking us around yet again, Trump announced the fighting would stop and negotiations will begin again. Iran claims there are not talks pending. The NY Times writes that Trump’s behavior shows who has the upper hand. Iran is not backing down under pressure. Last week, it looked as though Trump would pull Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General because he might not get the votes necessary to be confirmed. Two Republicans, Tillis and Cornyn, wanted assurance from Blanche that he would not give Trump the IRS deal he wanted, and not continue with the planned $1.8 billion fund to pay those who claim they were unfairly persecuted by the government. This morning, Blanche put an “assurance” in writing that the Justice Department would abandon elements of the deal it struck with Trump to resolve his lawsuit against the I.R.S. and not pursue the so-called “anti-weaponization fund”. I don’t believe a word of what he says or writes, and putting it in writing means absolutely nothing. If they have any sense, they will not go for this scam. On Saturday, Trump wrote on social media, “Todd Blanche was a voice of reason! It will immediately be back on the table, and I will get it done,” adding that he would keep Blanche as acting attorney general if the Senate failed to confirm him. Tillis wrote that Trump “clearly intends to resurrect the payout pot for punks either by inappropriately establishing another bogus fund or pushing Congress to vote for a bill that the majority of Republicans in the Senate would be against.” Trump’s polling numbers are at an historic low. now all but the most unpopular second-term president at this stage of their tenure in the history of polling going back to the 1940s. The only exception is Nixon, who had even less support at this stage in his second term; he was just days away from resigning over the Watergate scandal. Of course Trump is posting on social media that these polls are not true. The Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein Memorial Reading Room (@redactedreadingroom), is an exhibition of the Epstein files that have been printed and bound; it’s traveling around various US cities. Developed by the Institute for Primary Facts, the Reading Room hopes to push the DOJ to release all the files & to pursue justice for victims. Since the volumes of documents (3,500 volumes of 800 page paper, double sided) were insufficiently redacted by the DOJ, the files are not open to the public, only credentialed/vetted members of the press, victims & survivors, members of Congress, and law enforcement are given access. Victims rights advocates estimate 1,400 people were abused and trafficked by Epstein and his friends. It is OUTRGEOUS. I continue to be horrified that nothing has been done, although I know many good people are working on the release. Can you imagine (and I sometimes do) the cascade of procecutions that will result?
