ShotSpotter is a detection system designed to alert first reponders that a gun has been fired. You’ve likely seen them on lightposts. It also has a microphone on it, which is the reason some people don’t like it. They feel like they are under surveillance. Because ShotSpotter only alerts and doesn’t prevent crime, citizens brought the issue to the City Council in Cambridge, which on May 18 voted to do away with all of the devices. |
