“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” made box office history in its first weekend in theaters. The Sony-released superhero movie became the second-biggest North American opening ever with an astonishing $355 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday. It was just a few million shy of “Avengers: Endgame,” which debuted to $357 million in 2019.

The film also made $572 million from over 73,500 screens internationally, with China contributing $121 million alone, adding up to a $927 million worldwide debut that is second only to “Endgame” ($1.2 billion).

Tom Holland’s run as the comic book webslinger has been a mighty one. “No Way Home,” his third standalone Spider-Man movie, made over $1.9 billion worldwide to become the eighth-highest earning movie of all time, not accounting for inflation. It was also the first movie since the beginning of the pandemic to cross the $1 billion mark.

After reports circulated on July 30 that Marvel’s critically acclaimed show “Wonder Man” had been reportedly canceled, its star took to social media to respond.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who plays main character Simon Williams, confirmed in a social media post that the show would not be returning after one season, saying, “that’s life, right?” The news comes just months after the show announced that it had been renewed for a second season.

The Marvel star thanked fans of the show, which debuted in January.

Vincent Pastore, who played Tony Soprano’s best friend turned informant on HBO’s mob drama ‘Sopranos,’ has died, a representative confirmed Saturday.

He was 80.

“Yes, he has passed away at home,” manager Robert Attermann said of Pastore, a longtime resident of New York City’s Bronx neighborhood.

An emotional Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi announced on Friday that she underwent a hysterectomy operation to treat Stage 1 cervical cancer, months after first disclosing her diagnosis.

The reality star, who earned fame as a hard-partying roommate on MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” announced her health scare earlier this year. Polizzi, 38, credited regular Pap smears with catching her cancer early and encouraged other women to keep up with their own exams for early detection.

Gynecologists use Pap smears to identify irregular cervical cells that can signal cancer or develop into the disease. A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus and can treat conditions ranging from cancer to endometriosis and fibroids.
