The fall edition of the 55+ Guide will be delivered in a special eNews message on Tuesday, August 11, so keep an eye on your inbox!

 

Registration for fall programs will open on Tuesday, August 18 for Arlington County residents and Thursday, August 20 for out-of-county residents.

Who Gets Grandma's Pie Plate?

Mon., Aug. 10, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Walter Reed

What happens to a loved one’s possessions after their death? How can we answer this question fairly and while avoiding conflict? This presentation by Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Financial Education Volunteers discusses inheritance of family heirlooms and addresses preplanning to designate recipients of personal belongings.   • Budgeting Made Simple: Monday, August 10, 1-2 p.m. at Aurora Hills. At this
    workshop with Tanise Bing, financial counselor with Arlington Community Federal
    Credit Union, learn the basics of budgeting and how to manage your money with confidence. Register: #914400-06
  • Retirement Readiness: Thursday, August 13, 6-7 p.m. at Lubber Run. Join Brian Fyock with Evermay Wealth Management for a presentation on the financial considerations for retirement. Register: #914404-07.
  • Facing Debt Collection: Friday, August 28, 10-11 a.m. at Lubber Run. This session with Benjamin L. Apt, an attorney with Legal Services of Northern Virginia, will help participants understand their rights when dealing with debt collectors. Register: #914400-10

Finding Local News Online

Tues., Aug. 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Langston-Brown

Arlington County residents can access many online tools for local news, government updates, emergency alerts and more. Volunteer Linda Sholl will provide step-by-step guidance on how to find and use these resources. The class will also highlight regional sources for transportation, weather and public safety information. Register: #914403-10

Come to the Arlington County Fair!

Aug. 12-16 at Thomas Jefferson Community Center

The wait is almost over! Join us for the 2026 Arlington County Fair for five days of free, family-friendly fun. From exciting carnival rides, live entertainment and delicious fair food to local vendors, exhibits, competitions and activities for all ages, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Bike to the Fair

Friday, Aug. 14, 5-7 p.m. at Walter Reed

Enjoy the Arlington County Fair with new friends and easy transportation! Meet 55+ Center Director Jennifer Weber at Walter Reed with your own bike and helmet for a leisurely bike ride to the fair with easy valet bike parking. Purchase food, drink and ride tickets on your own.

Registration for the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics Closes on August 24

The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics (NVSO) will be held from September 9 through October 4 at venues throughout Northern Virginia. You don’t have to be an athlete to participate! In addition to track and field, swimming, pickleball, cycling, tennis and other outdoor events, consider scrabble, line dancing, sudoku, 10 pin bowling, Mah Jongg and more.
