Back in the day, when one of my idols, Tony Robbins got his documentary on Netflix, an interviewer asked him: Why Netflix? Tony had a thriving business A big audience Loyal followers. He could have just sold the documentary straight to us. Why go with Netflix? His answer: The distribution At that time, he didn’t think there was any better way to get in front of that many people. Millions and millions, he said. Right into their living room Now, crazy as it seems, we all have access to that level of distribution with our videos. Where? How? YouTube. New data from Pew Research and Nielsen shows YouTube is completely dominant across every single category:
Right. Complete domination. Plus, it’s broken up by interest as you well know.
The list goes on forever. And unlike Netflix, there are no producers to convince in order to gain access to these people. You know this, of course. But if you’re not on YouTube, you’ve probably got the wrong mindset about it. I did for years. I thought it was a place to grow an audience. Dumb. YouTube is a place to make sales. I do not optimize for watch time, clicks, views, shares, followers, or subscribers on YouTube. I optimize for money. And I’m happy to tell you that is a way better game to play. Partly because I don’t have to stress about competing with MrBeast for attention. And partly because my YouTube channel is building trust 24/7 with customers on my behalf. It’s pretty common for me to wake up to an inbox that looks like this These are all people who want to work with me. Anyway, enough for now. I’m opening up my YouTube playbook in just 48 hours time with the Rich With YouTube workshop.
