Safety Patrol Program
The Safety Patrol program is now open to rising 5th and 6th grade students at Oak Hill. This program offers students the opportunity to develop leadership and responsibility skills while actively contributing to the safety of our school community. Selected students will be assigned to various positions within the school and on buses to help ensure a safe environment during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
If your student is interested in applying to become a Safety Patrol for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the application. Students and parents are required to complete the application together. *
*Students must be logged into their student Google account to access the application. The deadline for submission is May 29th; late applications will not be accepted.
Summer Book Exchange - Volunteers Needed
When: June 2nd (Grades 4–6), June 3rd (Grades Pre-K–3)
Your child can drop off up to 15 gently used books in dedicated bins in the lobby and at Kiss'n'Ride starting May 11th. Your child should take one paper receipt and write down the total number of books donated (up to 15). They can give the receipt to their teacher to keep until the book exchange. At the book exchange, your child can select the same number of books as previously donated.

Noetic Math LeapAhead
PTA is excited to offer Noetic Math LeapAhead this summer!
LeapAhead offers 4 assignments a week for a total of 8 weeks. The daily assignments motivate children to log in every day to find what challenges await them. Children love the interactive nature of online worksheets, and they can find out their mistakes and scores right away! All worksheets are fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Register here! Enrollment is limited.

Money Camp @ Oak Hill ES
Who: Rising 4th through 7th graders
When: 3 one week sessions starting July 6, July 13, and July 20th
Time: 8:30-3:30
Register on the Oak Hill PTA website.
Money Camp is $320 per week.
Money Camp is back this year! Students get jobs, pay bills, and learn all about economic concepts through a real-life simulation, while also creating a product to sell at our Market Day! Check us out on the FCPS Facebook page!

Summer Break STEM Camp – Hands-On Science & Engineering Activities!
Looking to start summer break with an exciting and educational opportunity? Students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology are hosting a one-week long STEM Camp for 4th-7th graders from June 22-26 in Oakton, VA. Campers will explore engineering, coding, chemistry, physics, and biology through engaging, hands-on activities designed to make STEM fun and accessible. The camp runs from 9 AM - 4 PM, with optional extended care available.

3rd Annual FCPS Puzzle Hunt
The Solving Fun Puzzle Pals have been busy getting ready for the 3rd Annual Fairfax County Public Schools Puzzle Hunt — and it’s only three weeks away!
This FREE event is open to solvers of all ages and is a great way to keep students and families engaged in fun, creative problem-solving over the summer. It also teaches bike and pedestrian safety and encourages active transportation.
New this year: the school with the most solvers will win a special visit from Sue Doku!

Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Update
On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.

New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
FCPS PreK and Early Head Start
The FCPS PreK and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old.
PreK: For children who will be age 3 or 4 by September 30, with priority given to 4-year-olds. Oak Hill ES has a pre-Kindergarten class.
Early Head Start: For children ages 0–2 and pregnant women who live in the Reston, Herndon, and Springfield areas. This would be at another location.
