Hi iza,
Mike and I launched a new business two weeks ago, the very same week we opened enrollment for Relaxed Money.
Only we didn’t tell anyone. Mostly because I wanted to make sure it was ready first. But now that we have our first paying customers and we feel solid enough to spread the word, I’m telling you.
Announcing… our first Airbnb in Maine!
A charming, completely renovated Cape Cod just 20 minutes outside Portland, ME, in the precious coastal town I grew up in.
We bought the property somewhat spontaneously at the end of Summer 2025, and Mike has been expertly managing the gut renovation and set up of the property since then. ( And by expertly, I mean he’s become shockingly good at this.)
In full disclosure, I’ve never even been inside the house at the time I’m writing this. (Though I’m boarding a plane as I type this to head up there for the weekend to put some finishing touches on the decor!)
The purchase was part:- Tax strategy
- Building toward work optionality
- Nostalgia for my hometown
We also designed it around something I care deeply about:
I’m the kind of person who’s always asking Uber drivers to put their air fresheners in the glove compartment and washing sheets in Airbnb’s in fragrance-free, non-toxic detergent so I can sleep without the chemical fragrance making my head throb.
That’s why our property is equipped with organic bedding and mattresses, ceramic pots and pans (no Teflon here!), cleaned with non-toxic products, and outfitted with fragrance-free detergent and organic personal care products.
Why am I telling you this?
A few things:- It’s really important for everyone to diversify their income streams. No matter who you are, building multiple streams of income is just plain smart for diversification. Especially in a world changing as fast as this one is. Sharing our journey of doing that is part of my mission, and I hope it inspires you to start thinking and acting accordingly.
- You might want to stay there. It was designed with a lot of love and intention, and I know you’ll love it.
Check out our Airbnb listing right here. | | | | Even though this is primarily Mike’s project and all I’ve done is helped choose the furniture and some fixtures, it’s been unbelievably satisfying to work on a revenue stream that’s completely independent of my personal brand.
I don’t plan to stop writing, recording my podcast, or offering transformational programs anytime soon, but it feels good to build something that, over time, makes all of that optional.
And honestly? That feeling of freedom ignites my creativity.
Remember: wealth isn’t what you make. It’s what you keep, grow, and turn into future freedom.
Xo, Kate
P.S. Mike and I just recorded Part 1 of a brand new Plenty series, breaking down exactly how and why we decided to build a short-term rental business.
We talk about:
- creating multiple income streams
- work optionality
- investing beyond your personal brand
- what we’ve learned so far (including mistakes)
If building more freedom into your financial life matters to you, you’ll love this one.
