Police Take Part in Spring 2026 Click It or Ticket Campaign

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Police Department, in partnership with The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is urging drivers to buckle up ahead of a national Click It or Ticket high-visibility seat belt enforcement and education effort. The national seat belt campaign, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, runs from May 11 to May 31, 2026.

NHTSA reports that in 2024, 22,713 passenger vehicle occupants were killed nationwide. Nearly 50% of those killed were not buckled. With Memorial Day signifying the unofficial start of summer, more people will be out on the roads traveling to and from events and festivities. Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Keep you and your passengers safe by making seatbelts a requirement for all vehicle occupants-every time.

Virginia law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to be restrained by a seat belt, regardless of where they are seated in the vehicle. Children under age 8 must be secured in a proper child safety seat, and rear-facing child seats must still be placed in the back seat of a vehicle.

Protect what matters most. A seat belt saves you from more than a ticket. Buckling your seat belt on each and every ride helps to ensure that you arrive at your destination safely. For more information on how seat belts save lives, visit the NHTSA website.
