In an update following Trump's announcement of "Project Freedom", the US military said some 15,000 service members, guided-missile destroyers and more than 100 aircraft would be involved in an operation to "support" ships seeking to move through the Strait of Hormuz. A senior Iranian official warned that any US attempt to interfere in the strait would be considered a violation of the ceasefire, which began on 8 April as the two countries work on a permanent peace plan. Iran's military said it will attack any foreign forces if they enter the strait. Trump's announcement came after Iranian state-linked media said Tehran had received a US response to its latest peace proposal. Iran said the response, delivered via Pakistan, was being reviewed, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency. 

In January 2025, social media users raised thousands of dollars to help treat a dog featured in a video that described the animal as needing life-saving treatment. BBC Africa Eye has discovered the dog was a prop in a scam part of a hidden industry profiting from animal cruelty.
