Atoms Weekly Recap

Baseball played Edison Monday evening at home. The Atoms and Eagles were tight early before the Eagles bats got hot as they flew away with the district win 17-5. The Atoms played the first game of the Grant and Danny Invitational last night and today. We will have a full recap of the games next week. JV went 1-1 on the week as they fell to Edison Monday and beat the Wolves in an exciting game Thursday evening.

Softball played two district foes this week in Edison and Justice. The Atoms welcomed the Eagles to Ossian Park Monday evening. The result may not have gone in the favor of the Atoms as they feel 17-10 but the Atoms took the district power Eagles the distance. Thursday was a different result as the Atoms traveled to Justice. The Atoms came out on fire and cruised the district win over the Wolves. JV went lost the Eagles but tied the Wolves in their first action of the season.

Boys Lacrosse went 1-1 on their two games of the week. Monday the Atoms took on South Lakes and the Seahawks proved to be too much as they dominated their way to a non-district win. The second game of the week was a different story as the Atoms had a strong performance to beat Wakefield 11-7 Thursday evening. The JV Atoms went 0-2 on the week but continue to get better.

Girls Lacrosse played one game this week before spring break with a trip to Reston to take on South Lakes. The Atoms were outmatched by the Seahawks but played hard as they head into the break. JV lost to the Seahawks but the young Atoms continue to work hard and get stronger.

Boys Soccer played two good non-district opponents this week at home. First was a match up with Langley Tuesday evening. It was an even throughout with the Saxons scoring early in the second only to be matched by the Atoms mere minutes later. It would stay tied until a penalty resulted in a 2-1 win for the Saxons. Next up was Wakefield Thursday evening. Another great game as it came down to the final moments. Unfortunately, the result went in favor of the Warriors as they came away with a 3-2 win. JV went 1-1 on the week with a win over Wakefield.

Girls Soccer traveled to Langley and Wakefield for their two games before the break. Tuesday was a date with the Saxons. The Atoms and Saxons were locked in a tight battle all night but it was the Saxons who were able to get a couple goals in to get the non-district 2-0. Thursday was another tight battle for the Atoms but this time it was against the Warriors of Wakefield. The Atoms had several chances throughout but were unable to get one past the goalie. However, the Warriors had trouble doing the same and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. JV lost both of their games but are working hard to get better.

Boys Tennis traveled to Hayfield Tuesday evening and hosted Justice Thursday. The young Atoms continue to work hard and get better with each match but Tuesday saw the Hawks fly away from the Atoms to win 6-3. The Wolves came to Annandale Thursday evening and the result was unfortunately the same as the Wolves dominated the Atoms to win 8-1.

Girls Tennis played their final two matches before the break with a home match vs Hayfield and a trip to Justice. Hayfield was a tightly contested match coming down to the final match that ultimately saw the Hawks come away with a 5-4 win. Thursday was a mirror image of Tuesday as the Atoms and Wolves were locked in throughout, coming down to the final match. The Atoms came out victorious to beat the Wolves 5-4!

Outdoor Track & Field traveled to Justice Wednesday evening. The second meet of the season held the focus of continuing to get their legs under them as the Atoms had several athletes achieve personal best times as they continue their drive and focus for the National District Championship Meet in May.
