This week, students in our Garden Club visited Mount Vernon where they had a special tour to learn about the various plant species and approaches to gardening. Thank you to our PTA and to FCPS Get2Green for sponsoring this program for our students.
News from the Fox Den
March 27, 2026
A Message from Ms. Consolla
Despite the weather delays across February and March, we ended third quarter strong. Our teachers maximized the learning time with our students to ensure everyone was focused on the standards. They even found some ways to make this final week fun with a "secret" spirit week. Each day we had students noticing that staff members coincidentally were wearing animal prints or dressing monochromatically or sporting their team's favorite gear.
Next week is Spring Break, and there will be no school for students. Our school office will also be closed during this time to allow our dedicated staff to recharge with their own families. We look forward to seeing all our Foxes back in the building on Tuesday, April 7.
April is a particularly significant month for our community as we celebrate the Month of the Military Child. We are incredibly proud of our military-connected students and recognize the unique strength and resilience they bring to our classrooms. Please stay tuned for events for our entire community.
We are excited to welcome the newest members of the den to Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, April 9 at 4:00pm. If you have neighbors with children who will be joining us for kindergarten next year, please encourage them to attend and remind them to call the front office to schedule a registration appointment. We can’t wait to meet our future Foxes!
I hope this upcoming week provides you with plenty of sunshine, relaxation, and quality time with those you love. Whether you are traveling or enjoying a quiet "staycation," I wish you a refreshing and wonderful Spring Break.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.

SOL Testing Dates at Fort Hunt ES
Our students in Grades 3-6 will take the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. We've put together a schedule that minimizes disruption to our overall school operations.
Tuesday, May 5: Reading SOL for Grades 3, 4, 5 & 6
Tuesday, May 12: Math SOL for Grades 3, 4, 5, & 6
Tuesday, May 19: Science SOL for Grade 5 only
All but a handful of students from these grades will be testing on these dates. Thank you for scheduling appointments on dates other than these Tuesdays. If you have questions, please connect with Ms. Settel at pasettel@fcps.edu
Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.
Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.
The 2026 Special Education Family Conference, Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools, will take place on Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Marshall High School.
Dr. Shelley Moore will deliver the keynote address on The Evolution of Inclusion. It will look at how the goals of inclusion have continued to shift and evolve, as we learn more about diversity and identity. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own contexts and consider next steps for advocacy and action.
Visit the FCPS 2026 Special Education Family Conference webpage for more information, including breakout session offerings and a list of vendors that will be on site. Confirm your attendance for this year’s conference.

FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS.
Connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:
Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
