A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Dear Chantilly Community,

WE value your partnership and support of our students as they pursue their academic goals. Families are encouraged to use SIS ParentVue to check their student's course requests and to have conversations at home about goals and aspirations. Read more below about how to review your student's schedule.

As we look ahead to warm spring temperatures and outdoor activities, as well as spring break, we often see an uptick in student absences. Please review the updated attendance information below (Spring Break is Around the Corner) and reach out to your child's school counselor or subschool administrator with questions.

Academic Advising Update – Parent Acknowledgement Feature

As the Academic Advising and Course Selection period draws to a close, we want to ensure all families feel confident about their child's educational path. To facilitate this, SIS ParentVUE allows parents and guardians to review and acknowledge their student's course requests for the 2026-27 school year. This acknowledgement window is open from March 16-March 27, 2026.  Please note that this information is not a schedule, it is a list of courses only. Schedules will be finalized and released in August before school starts.

Instructions to view and acknowledge course requests:

  • Log into your ParentVUE account.
  • Navigate to the Course Request module.
  • Review your student’s course request list for next school year.
  • Navigate to the Student Info module.
  • Click Edit Information.
  • Locate the Course Request Acknowledgment field.
  • Update the acknowledgment field to Yes to confirm review.
  • Click Save Changes.

Please contact Director of Student Services, Amy Parmentier, agparmentier@fcps.edu, with any questions.

  • Family and school partnerships.
  • Community partnerships.

Attendance Matters - Spring (Break) is Around the Corner!

Spring (Break) is Around the Corner!

  • Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after spring break. Let’s break that cycle!
  • Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning. But it’s harder to teach and it’s harder to learn when too many students are absent.
  • Make sure your student is in school every day, right up until vacation starts so they can finish Quarter 3 strongly.
  • Below are some important dates to keep in mind:
  • March 20 (Friday) - School Holiday (Eid al-Fitr)
  • March 23-27- Five Days of School
  • March 27 (Friday) - End of Quarter 3 (2-hr early release)
  • March 30 - April 3 - Spring Break
    • Please remember, Monday, April 6, 2026 is also a Student Holiday.
  • We are eager to welcome your student back in school on Tuesday, April 7; ready to start their last quarter of the school year!

Things to Consider Regarding a Pre-Arranged School Absence

  • Pre-arranged absences fall under the same FCPS/VDOE guidelines in terms of excused and unexcused absences.
  • Even with pre-arranged notification, an absence may be classified as unexcused.
  • Parents/guardians and students must plan to arrange for their child to complete make-up work, tests, and/or projects.
  • If the student's absence request exceeds five days, a parent conference may be required. The conference will require a review of the student's academic and absence record.
  • Students who are absent 15 or more consecutive school days will be withdrawn from enrollment.
  • FCPS computers and Schoology are not accessible outside of the United States.

Reminders from Chantilly Admin:

Chantilly student drop off and pick up:

We have had increased complaints about students parking and traffic congestion in Shenandoah Apartments and Greenbriar Neighborhoods. Please be a good neighbor and do not use these areas to drop off or pick up Chantilly students:

  • Please used the Chantilly Kiss and Ride lane for student drop off.
  • Please pick students up in the Chantilly parking lot after 3:05 PM
  • Violators may be ticketed or towed

Cell Phone Policy Reminders

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at [phone number]. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.

Google Sites Blocked on FCPS network

Due to observed student misuse and gaming during class, starting today, Chantilly HS will block all external Google Sites.  Google Sites starting with the URL sites.google.com that do not originate from our official FCPS domain will be automatically blocked on all FCPS devices where a student is logged in. Many students use these sites to circumvent our content filter to access gaming sites Students can still access their created Google Sites through their Google Drive account and then filter the drive by the “site” type. This will display all the student's created sites. Students can also still access all internal Google Sites by navigating to the URL of the site

Summer Learning

Prepare for Summer Learning and Fun for Students

Registration is open or will be available soon for summer camps and learning opportunities offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students.

Career and Technical Education and Institute for the Arts Camps

Career and Technical Education camps and Institute for the Arts camps will be held in July at Robinson Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Tuition assistance is available to FCPS families eligible for free or reduced meals.

CTE Summer Academy (CSA) is a week-long enrichment program that allows students in grades 6-11 to dive deeper into CTE program areas, develop skills, and begin career exploration. Watch this video about CTE camps. Registration is open for these programs through Friday, June 5.

Institute for the Arts (IFTA) is a two-week camp for students currently in grades 6-11. Students select from nearly 60 classes in art, dance, music, and theater. Rising freshmen have the option to take Health and PE 9 through IFTA as well!

Production Camp is a four-week summer theatre intensive for students in grades 6-11. Students in performance or technical theatre tracks rehearse, design, and build a musical in a collaborative atmosphere. The show is presented to the public at the end of camp.

New this year: Students in the above camps can also register for aftercare, which is available from 2 to 5 p.m.

Self-Directed Economics and Personal FinanceSummer is a great time for high school students to fulfill the Economics and Personal Finance course requirement. During the self-directed course, students work independently to complete the requirements. Registration is now open. Students must register by Friday, June 5. For more information, see the Summer Learning information page.

Summer Online CampusTake advantage of the opportunity to earn a high school course credit via this summer’s Online Campus program. Registration is now open. Students must register by Friday, June 5. Empowering Families to Explore AI

Common Sense Media recently released a new AI literacy video and toolkit designed to help families understand how artificial intelligence (AI) is showing up in students' schoolwork and how to use it for actual learning rather than instant assignment completion.

Titled "Using AI Wisely for School Success," this series addresses the growing presence of AI in classrooms. While AI can help students test their knowledge of subject matter and grow their skills, the purpose of the toolkit is to emphasize that real, long-lasting learning still requires effort and active engagement. The video offers families practical guidance for supporting kids as they navigate the rise of AI in education, breaking down when AI can be helpful and when it can get in the way of building critical thinking skills.

Wish List Supports Chantilly Staff

Share the Love with our Chantilly Staff - PTSA WishList:

Help the PTSA keep our teachers and staff fueled and appreciated all year long.  Please use this wish list link if you would like to buy snacks or a gift card or drop off items in the front office.

Checking out early?

The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to their Subschool Office in the morning! Or call your child's subschool before 9 a.m. to request early dismissal. You can find the phone numbers at the bottom of this email and on the Chantilly Attendance page.

  • Your student will receive a pass to leave class at the time you specify.
  • You won't need to come inside the school; your student will simply come out to meet you.

Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them. Sending a note is always the quickest option!

Important Reminders:

  • Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
  • If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the Subschool Office, or by text with the student..

Volunteer FCPS

Volunteer FCPS Helps Community Members Connect With Schools

The new volunteer management system, Volunteer FCPS, allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities at our school or across the school district.

Volunteer FCPS is how FCPS provides a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. Anyone interested in volunteering with FCPS must:

  • Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
  • Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
  • Sign in and out of schools using the visitor kiosk on EVERY visit – no exceptions.

Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels

Due to the overwhelming response, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal confirmation that you have no history of violent felonies, physical or sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude (dishonesty, fraud, things that are immoral by society’s standards).

Visit the Volunteer FCPS website to complete a volunteer orientation. View Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
