CXLs are internationally agreed food standards that are established for pesticide residues in or on food.
In November 2025, the Codex Alimentarius Commission adopted new CXLs for a range of pesticide active substance/crop combinations.
Agreed CXLs are voluntary and implementation by member countries is not automatic, but they may be adopted as GB Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) provided they are supported by GB assessments.
Following a review by HSE, the CXLs adopted in November 2025, that meet the required level of protection for UK consumers, have now been adopted as GB MRLs.
The new MRLs came into force on the 13 February 2026 as indicated in the GB MRL Statutory Register.
The evaluation reports, reasoned opinions and decision documents supporting the full list of CXLs adopted as new GB MRLs are available on the HSE website.
