Ever hear of a wealth ceiling?
Well, you’ve got one Pookie…
And you probably didn’t even know it existed.
Here's what I mean:
If you see yourself as a $50K person, you will actively sabotage any opportunity to make more.
Not because you're not capable.
But because your brain won't let you pursue something that doesn't match your self-image.
It’s what happened to me when I finally got a decent job.
I was stuck at about $85K for YEARS because I built an identity around being "scrappy" and "getting by."
Every time I was about to make more, I'd find a way to mess it up.
Until I had a conversation with my now-business partner.
(He’s a great guy, and we even used to be roommates.)
I was bitching about how I could never make more money, no matter how hard I tried.
And like a good friend, he listened.
Nodding along and agreeing…
But once my rant wound down he asked me something I’ll never forget:
He said, “Caleb, I know you work really hard at your job, but when you’re off I just see you playing video games and being lazy. Which is fine. But if you actually want to make more money, why aren’t you trying to grow your business when you aren’t at work?”
Mic drop.
He was 100% right.
And once I did the work to rewire my dumb brain, it was easy to shift my habits toward increasing my revenue.
See, your self-concept acts like a thermostat.
Let’s say your thermostat is set at $100K.
If you do manage to make $150K, you'll probably just spend the extra $50K to get back to your "normal."
If you make $80K, you'll stress and hustle until you're back at $100K.
You're regulating yourself back to what feels familiar.
But I want you to know…
You don’t have to settle for safe.
So here's your homework:
Write this down: "I'm the kind of person who __________"
Fill in the blank honestly.
Maybe it's "I’m the person who overspends." Maybe it's "I'm the person who’s bad with money."
Whatever.
Then draw a line.
On the other side write: "I'm the kind of person who builds and manages wealth with ease."
You don't need to believe it yet.
Just write it.
Read it before every money decision.
The moment your self-image expands, your income will follow.
Stop capping yourself.
