PTSD and fireworks: How to manage anxiety and support Veterans

 

As celebrations and large-scale events for America's 250th quickly approach, many communities and individuals will commemorate the festivities by grilling food, gathering with friends, and – of course – popping colorful and loud fireworks.

While many Americans eagerly await the cinematic firework displays and shows, we know there are some Americans who may avoid them. For Veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fireworks can mimic combat situations.

We encourage Veterans, their families, friends, and neighbors to know the signs of PTSD, and learn more on how to help Veterans have an enjoyable and safe Fourth of July.
