The Recommendation

Today, a grill that you can bring (almost) anywhere. Plus:

“I show up at parties with my portable grill”

When social media editor Magdaline Duncan moved to New York City after growing up in rural Missouri, she found herself missing the joys of a good barbecue. Enter: this 18-inch grill.

Its small size and comfortable handle make it easy to carry to outdoor parties. It can also handle a surprising amount of food, accommodating up to seven burgers or 10 bratwurst links at once.

Best of all, Maggie says there’s something meditative about doling out hot dogs for her friends. “Modern day troubles can’t find me when I’m at the park with my grill,” she says. “I am fully focused on this ancient task, cooking food under the open sky for people I love.”

“I didn’t need a backyard and a $400 full-size grill. I just needed to be creative”→

Plus: A chair that can fit in your bag

For your tiny grill: How about a matching tiny chair? Sure, it’s technically for camping, but social media editor Hali Potters has found it useful for so much more. It’s featherlight and packs up small enough to fit in her tote bag — providing precious back support during picnics, park hangs, beach days, and more.

“I carry this itty bitty camping chair basically everywhere”→

One last thing: Ice cream sandwiches make a great gift

Why not treat your fellow partygoers to a selection of delectable ice cream sandwiches? You can’t go wrong with the classic old-school type, but you’ll really blow everyone away if you bust out something zanier — like a refreshingly zesty key lime pie ’wich.

Plus, a handsome cooler to keep all your ice cream, well, icy→
