Hey there, outdoors folks! You will read below that former CU track star Jenny Simpson, 2011 world champion in the 1,500 meters and Olympic bronze medalist in 2016, collapsed this week at a track event in North Carolina, lost consciousness and was hospitalized. I'm sending thoughts and prayers. I covered her incredible career, including all three of her Olympics (2008, 2012, 2016) and was there in Rio de Janeiro when she won her Olympic medal. One of my favorite athletes in 24 years covering Olympic sports. Heads upAnother hot weekend for the metro
area is on tap with high temperatures of 89 on Friday and Sunday, 95 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Mountain highs will be in the 60s.

Jenny Nehring, of Wetland Dynamics, surveys bird populations in the Russell Lakes Wildlife Refuge in Saguache County on March 30, 2026. A
grant from American Rivers, funded by Coloradans’ sports betting, will provide money for scientists to collect data about winter ice sheets by placing groundwater wells at the wildlife area. (Photo by Jacob Spetzler/Special to The Denver Post)
