Traveling this summer? VA Can Help You Stay Connected to Your Health Care |
|
|
Summer often means vacations, road trips, and time away from home, but your health care doesn’t have to take a break. VA’s Traveling Veteran Coordinator (TVC) program helps ensure you receive the care you need while you’re on the move. Whether you’re traveling across the state or across the country, your primary care team and TVCs can help coordinate care, transfer prescriptions, connect you with VA facilities along your route, and explain available services at your destination. A quick conversation before you leave can help prevent interruptions in your care and give you peace of mind wherever your summer takes you.
Before you travel: • Notify your PACT care team with your travel dates and destination address • Refill medications 4–6 weeks early • Use My HealtheVet for secure messaging and accessing your records: https://www.va.gov/health-care/send-receive-messages/
For short trips: • Use in‑network urgent care: https://www.va.gov/find-locations/ • For emergencies: go to the nearest ER and notify VA within 72 hours at 844‑724‑7842 • Unsure? VA Health Connect and Nurse Triage is available 24/7, 365 days a year, just call 833-940-1624
For long trips (4+ months): • Your provider can submit a Traveling/Relocating Veteran Consult • Ensures labs and imaging can be ordered while you’re away • Contact the Traveling Veteran Coordinator at (734) 222‑7403 • Update your mailing address on VA.gov • Note: you can only have ONE assigned PACT (primary care team). This is your home VA.
Traveling abroad? • Enroll in the Foreign Medical Program (FMP) • VA covers service‑connected conditions only Learn more: https://www.va.gov/health-care/foreign-medical-program/
Before you head out, make sure you have the right contacts, medications, and information in place so you can enjoy your travels with confidence.
Safe travels, and thank you for your service.
