I think the key is to start with the walls that get the most afternoon light because that is where you will notice the biggest difference in how the color reads. We made the mistake of testing only on the north-facing wall and ended up with a shade that looked great in the morning but felt flat by evening. If you are working with a limited number of paint chips I would suggest putting them up in at least two different spots and living with them for a couple of days. The lighting in the store is completely different from what you have at home. Also do not forget to look at the color during overcast conditions because that is when some shades can appear muddy. We learned that the hard way and ended up repainting the entire hallway. The second time around we took more time to observe how the light shifted throughout the day and it made all the difference. Let me know if you want to borrow the sample cards we used because we still have them and you are welcome to try them out before you buy anything.

I tried that new route on the trail last weekend and it was definitely more challenging than I expected. The elevation gain in the first mile is pretty steady and there are several switchbacks that require careful footing especially when the ground is damp. I would recommend taking poles if you have them because it helps with balance on the descent. The view at the top is worth the effort though you can see across the valley for miles. We stopped for about twenty minutes just to take it in. If you are planning to go I would suggest starting early to avoid the afternoon heat and bring more water than you think you will need. There is a stream about halfway up where you can refill if you have a filter. The trail is well marked but there are a few spots where the path splits and the signs are easy to miss so keep an eye out around mile two. We ran into a group that had taken the wrong fork and ended up adding almost an extra mile to their hike. Overall it was a solid afternoon and I would definitely do it again maybe even try the longer loop next time.
