Yeah I finally made it up to Mount Rainier last weekend and the wildflowers were absolutely incredible. We started at the Paradise trailhead around 7am and the sky was completely clear. The trail was in great shape although there were a few snowy patches near the top that made it a bit tricky. I brought my old hiking boots and they held up fine but I think I need to replace the insoles soon. We packed sandwiches and plenty of water but honestly we were so focused on the views that we barely stopped to eat. The marmots were everywhere and they were totally unafraid of people. One of them came within a few feet of us while we were taking photos near the visitor center. I would definitely go back again maybe later in the season when the fall colors start showing up. Let me know if you want me to send you some photos from the trip. The drive up was smooth and we found parking easily which never happens. Overall it was one of the best day hikes I have done in years.

So I finally tried making that sourdough recipe you sent me last month and it turned out way better than I expected. The starter took about a week to get really active and the first couple of loaves were a bit dense but by the third attempt I got a nice open crumb. I used a dutch oven for baking and that made a huge difference in the crust texture. The kitchen smelled amazing for hours afterward. My neighbor stopped by and I sent her home with half a loaf and she asked for the recipe immediately. I have been experimenting with adding different seeds to the top and sesame seeds work really well. The timing is the hardest part honestly because you have to plan around the bulk fermentation and proofing schedules. But once you get into a rhythm it becomes pretty manageable. I think this weekend I will try adding some dried rosemary and sea salt on top for a savory version. Let me know if you want me to save you a loaf to try. I can drop it by your place on Saturday morning if that works.
