Trump's Bloviation

In 2018, Trump ended US involvement in the Iranian Nuclear Arms agreement that Obama had started—and seemed to be working— and Iran has been rebuilding it’s nuclear capacity ever since. A few weeks ago, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu sent barrages of missles to try to end that progress. A few days ago, not to be overshadowed (reports are he was impressed with the FOX coverage Bibi’s attacks got), Trump then sent massive bombs into Iran to do the same. Without Congressional approval, on his own volition. It’s unclear how much damage these two men did to Iran’s ability to develop nuclear bombs. Even Iranian officials have not gone into the bombed sites to estimate the damage. Iran has been hit hard, and its proxies have also been largely rendered powerless in recent months by Israeli attacks.

Trump claimed his bombing “obliterated” Iran’s program. According to NPR just now, and the NY Times, the damage to Iran’s nuclear capabilities most likely set them back a few months.

But Trump’s actions are transparent. According to news sources in the NY Times, he made the decision to bomb Iran a day or so after his failed birthday military parade, and after millions of Americans took to the streets to protest his presidency.

Let’s hope this ceasefire endures, and that the Middle East changes in positive ways. There is no doubt the threat of Iran’s repressive regime and it’s nuclear capabilities have been a major destabalizing force in the region. Diplomacy is the best way to acheive peace in most cases; Trump is about force, bullying, lying and manipulation.

It’s not a game; the world is not a ball to whack around.
