Credit: Reuters | A fragile ceasefire appears to be holding between Israel and Iran, with both nations acknowledging it, just hours after they accused each other of violating it, prompting US President Donald Trump to lash out at them using an expletive. Not much is known about the America and Qatar-brokered truce, with the terms of it appearing "to be little more than both sides halting their strikes", writes diplomatic correspondent James Landale. While flying to a Nato meeting in the Netherlands, President Trump shared a message from the alliance's chief which congratulated him for taking "decisive action" in Iran. While "flattery is a tool many have deployed to try to sway Trump... it's not always displayed so publicly," notes Europe regional editor Danny Aeberhard. |

| | Democrats in New York headed to the polls on Tuesday to choose a nominee to lead America's biggest city, in a race that could have implications for the party nationally as it tries to take on US President Donald Trump. The race is being watched, not just by New Yorkers but by Democrats across the country, as it is largely seen as a proxy war for the very real internal battle that has plagued the party ever since Trump won the presidency. Since then, the party has been engaged in a soul-searching mission between the left-wing and moderates in the party.
In many ways the issues facing New York Democrats are the same ones the party faces in future elections, and afterwards, the primary may be dissected nationally for what it says about the party - and how it should take on Trump. |
