Dear readers,
OK, I know the IRS isn’t popular. Stay with me for a moment, though, because this *really* matters in our fight against wealth inequality.
Every year, some of the richest Americans cheat us out of hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes.
That's where the IRS is supposed to step in. But thanks to President Trump’s cuts to the IRS, more wealthy tax cheats will get off scot-free.
Add your name: The IRS must investigate billionaires who cheat on their taxes.

Since January, nearly a third of IRS revenue agents -- who audit taxpayers -- have been let go or agreed to quit, and Trump has promised further cuts. Without expert enforcement, it’s working Americans who have to pick up the check for the missing billions.
Underfunding the IRS helps rich Americans and hurts everyone else. Because the IRS doesn’t poll well, Trump sees it as an easy target in his efforts to help out his billionaire buddies.
Let’s dig into the numbers: The “tax gap” is no small matter. It’s $700 billion each year in taxes that Americans owe but don’t pay. You’ll be shocked, I’m sure, to hear that the richest 10% of Americans make up two-thirds of that gap. And as the wealthy find more and more ways to hoard their wealth and hide it from taxpayers, that number only grows.
Funding the IRS is also a smart budgetary move. One estimate shows that for every $1 spent on auditing the richest Americans, the government gains $26 in tax revenue.
That’s why we’re launching a campaign to highlight the IRS’s key role in building a fair economy. And this is where you come in: we want to launch with tens of thousands of citizen co-signers.
Will you join us in speaking out for the IRS? Add your name: We need the IRS to investigate billionaires who cheat on their taxes.
It’s no surprise to see President Trump helping out his billionaire buddies, and distracting us with a thousand other outrages. But we can’t get ground down or burned out -- we’ve got to speak up and spotlight this absolute injustice, and to empower and embolden elected officials.
