Dear Bailey’s ES Families,
We had a wonderful first full week of May at Bailey’s as we celebrated Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to our amazing PTA for organizing breakfast and lunch for our staff and for setting up the Mother’s Day Jewelry Shop—your support truly makes a difference. We also want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in our school community! We hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend and feel appreciated for all you do.
One of the highlights this week was our 2nd Grade Museum Family Event on Wednesday. Our second graders transformed the hallways into a student-created museum, showcasing their learning from this year. They took on the role of curators, making their thinking and creativity visible in such a powerful way. It was a great example of our arts integration work in action!
Next week, our 1st grade students will host their museum event on Wednesday, and our kindergartners will welcome families for theirs on May 29. We’re excited to continue these meaningful celebrations of student learning.
Lastly, thank you to our Kiss and Ride families for leaving space in line each morning so staff can park and enter with ease. Your cooperation helps our teachers start their day smoothly and reflects the supportive community we’re proud to have at Bailey’s!
Have a great weekend!
Satonya Dews, Principal
Tracey Brown Rice, Assistant Principal
Keith Downing, Assistant Principal

May Lunch Visitation Schedule
Parents/Caregivers are invited to join their student(s) for lunch at school on an assigned day. This is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers to come in for lunch with their child.
We encourage parents/caregivers to eat the same lunch as their child either packed or school lunch. We kindly ask that you do not bring fast food/outside lunch or candy. Also, parents please be advised that the bathrooms directly outside of the cafeteria are for student use only.
On the day of your child’s lunch, please arrive 5 minutes early so you can sign-in at the office and they will direct you to the cafeteria. Additionally, when you leave the school, please remember to check out in the office. If you choose to buy lunch from the cafeteria, adult pricing is $4.75 and may be paid in cash or by check. Click here for more information on purchasing lunch.
We ask that you please limit visitors to 1 caregiver, and no strollers please. We also ask that family members do not follow their child's class back to the classroom or outside for recess.
Please see below for the scheduled lunch visits by teacher. Note that Ms. Lopez’s homeroom has had their lunch visitation day rescheduled to Friday, May 16.
Field Day for Bailey’s Primary
•Kindergarten Monday, May 19th from 9:15 AM until approximately 11:20 AM
•1st Grade Monday, May 19th from 1:00 PM until approximately 3:00 PM
•2nd Grade Tuesday. May 20th from 9:15 AM until approximately 11:20 AM
How students can be prepared for Field Day:
✓ Because the weather will likely be warm, students should wear comfortable and cool clothing.
✓ Students must also wear sneakers/tennis shoes. No boots, sandals, or flip-flops should be worn on this day.
✓ Hats and visors may be worn for protection from the sun.
✓ Please have your child bring a water bottle WITH THEIR NAME ON IT so it can be carried around all the stations. Drinking water will be available for refills. No glass containers please.
✓ Please do not bring juice, soda or any drink other than water, as it could attract bees.
✓ Some stations will involve water and students may get a little wet. If students do not want to get wet they should notify their teacher.
✓ Students may wish to bring a towel and dry outfit to change into after field day.
✓ This event is for current Bailey’s students AND the parents who signed up to help run a station. Parent volunteers are not allowed to bring other children to this event. There will be sign-ups going out in the Thursday folder.
✓ Most importantly… Be prepared to have FUN!!
TikTok Chromebook Challenge
We are aware of a recent TikTok trend that challenges students to physically damage their school-issued Chromebooks. This “Chromebook Challenge” encourages students to purposefully cause their devices to short out or catch fire by jamming metal/lead into the charging or USB port or stabbing the battery. Students might think that this behavior is a harmless joke or prank, but it’s dangerous and we are asking for your help in preventing it here in FCPS.
Please speak to your students about the consequences of this TikTok challenge, which include:
- Fire, injury, and damage to FCPS property.
- Lost access to schoolwork and online resources.
- Disciplinary measures as outlined in our Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.
Please also note that families may be responsible for the repair or replacement costs for student-issued devices that are deliberately damaged.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our students and school safe, and we're looking forward to a strong finish to the school year here at Bailey's Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
