Last 3-hour early release is May 12

The last 3-hour early release is Monday, May 12 at 12:20 p.m. Please mark your calendars and set your reminder alarms.

Your students will follow the same plan for dismissal or after-school supervision as they did on the previous early-release date. NO changes to students plans to stay for supervision will be accepted on Monday, May 12, 2025.

Congratulations Gunston Elementary School! The Fairfax County School Board honored Gunston Elementary School’s 70th Anniversary with an official proclamation on Thursday, May 8. Mount Vernon District Representative Mateo Dunne was the lead sponsor and At-Large Member Ryan McElveen joined as the co-sponsor. School Board Member Dunne invited the Gunston school community to attend this event. The event was held at Luther Jackson MS.

PTA News

the last PTA meeting will be May Join the PTA at or last meeting in the cafeteria or Zoom! There will be light hors d'oeuvres will be provided to celebrate another wonderful year! Those present will be voting on the new PTA board for next year. Money Matters host, Lisa Wellington, will be joining us and providing parents and students an overview of the importance of identifying and achieving financial goals early in life. 


Phase 2 Community Boundary Review Meetings

Families, staff, and community members will soon be able to explore and visualize potential boundary scenarios using a customized Boundary Explorer Tool. The tool will be accessible from the FCPS website. You are also invited to participate in another series of community meetings in order to review and reflect on the initial draft scenarios before the start of summer break.

Each meeting will be hybrid, meaning that you may attend in person or via Zoom. Childcare for in-person participants and language interpretation/translation for all participants will be available as needed. Registration links will be shared soon. Another round of community meetings will be held in the fall.

On the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11, school will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.

 Prepare for a Summer

of Learning and Fun

Registration will be available soon for summer camps offered by Fairfax County Public Schools for all students. Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA) camps will be held in July at Lake Braddock Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS middle and high schools. Registration begins for these programs on Monday, March 10, and ends Friday, June 6.

Tech Adventure Camp (TAC) is a week-long exploratory camp designed to allow current K-5 students to explore activities in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), culinary arts, health, trades, and business and marketing areas. Watch this video about CTE camps.

E-IFTA is a weekly arts camp for students in grades 2-5 who love to sing, dance, act, perform, make, and create. Students take part in four daily classes related to dance, music, theater, and visual art. They work with FCPS fine arts teachers who create fun and engaging classes.

Pre-K Program Accepting

Applications for Fall

The FCPS PreK Program serves 3 and 4 year old students with a high quality, full-day preschool program with no cost to families at 78 Fairfax County elementary schools. 

Students may qualify with a variety of economic or educational risk factors. Learn more about the Pre-K and Early Head Start Program by watching this video (English) or video (Spanish).
