Dear Deer Park Elementary Families,
We hope this message finds you well. As we look ahead to another exciting year of supporting our students and staff, we are reaching out with an urgent and important request: Our PTA Treasurer position remains unfilled—and without a Treasurer, our PTA cannot function.
This role is absolutely critical to the operation of our PTA. Without someone in this position, we will be forced to place the PTA on inactive status. That means we will no longer be able to provide funding or support for the many programs and experiences that enrich our students' school life, including:
* Teacher and Student support
* Field trips
* Chorus and play support
* 6th grade celebration
* School assemblies
* Water filtration stations
* Educational technology
* Spelling Bee
* Fall & Spring Festivals
* Free Family Movie Nights
* And more
The PTA Treasurer plays a vital role in ensuring that our financial records are accurate, our budget is followed, and that strong controls are in place to prevent misuse of funds. While the role requires a commitment of time, it is a highly rewarding way to directly impact the school community and ensure our events and programs can continue.
Treasurer responsibilities include:
* Maintaining accurate financial records and submitting reports at meetings
* Chairing the Budget Committee to establish and monitor the annual budget
* Coordinating the annual audit or financial review
* Preparing an annual report for financial transparency
* Filing the PTA’s 990 form with the IRS (if applicable)
* Submitting state-level financial reports as required
* Ensuring all funds are handled responsibly and in accordance with PTA standards
* Upholding financial checks and balances at all times
If you have a background in finance, bookkeeping, or simply an organized and detail-oriented mindset, we urge you to consider stepping into this role. Training and support will be provided to make the transition as smooth as possible.
Please don’t let these vital programs disappear. Our students and school community depend on the support the PTA provides—but we can not do it without you.
