Dear Stenwood Families,
We had a wonderful week this week as our staff felt incredibly appreciated by students and families. Thank you for all of the kind words and thoughtful gifts during this week’s Teacher/Staff Appreciation week in the Hive. Stenwood would not be the amazing community it is without our amazing staff!
This week, we also kicked off Reading SOLs in grades 3 through 6. Thank you for stellar attendance on those days! Please look below for next week’s SOL dates.
Bike to School Day was a great way to roll into our SOLs on Wednesday! And tonight, we’ll ride out the week at our PTA Flip Flop Hop. With how wet this week has been, we are moving this event indoors. Be sure to check-out PTA communication for more information about tonight’s event from 6:00-8:00PM.
Finally, happy Mother's Day to all of our Stenwood moms! We hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend.
Below you will find additional information about:
Sincerely,
Erica Riley, Principal esriley@fcps.edu
Bryan Case, Assistant Principal bgcase@fcps.edu
SOL Schedule
SOLs continue next week! The SOL assessments are content assessments that measure a student's growth in Reading, Mathematics, and Science (5th grade only). These tests will be conducted during the dates listed in the table above.
Please mark your calendar - it is important that your child attend school on the dates designated for them to test. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night prior and arrives at school on-time.
Dismissal Schedule for the Last Day of School
On the last day of school, Wednesday, June 11th, school will be dismissed at 1:25pm. Attendance will be taken on the last day of school. If your child is going to be absent, please contact us at StenwoodElem.Attendance@fcps.edu in advance.
FCPS Fiscal Year 2026 Budget Public Hearing
The School Board will hold a public hearing on final budget adjustments on Tuesday, May 13th, at 6 p.m. Sign up to speak by Monday, May 12th, at 4:30 p.m. Please consider speaking at the hearing, as the proposed cuts last night significantly impact elementary schools.
These are the line items that directly impact Stenwood and elementary schools: staffing formula adjustments (class sizes), classroom monitors (providing adequate planning), elementary special education leads, and advanced academic resource teachers. Page one of this document summarizes the cuts. https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/DGH4T60D0DD2/$file/FY26%20Approved%20Budget%20Agenda%20v8.pdf.
FCPS Summer Extravaganza!
Tomorrow, Saturday May 10th

Let’s transform summer learning together!
The FCPS Summer Extravaganza is an exciting event that helps families imagine all the possibilities to continue learning over the summer. This is possible by showcasing interactive and immersive activities for children and the power of collaboration across FCPS offices and community partners.
Several departments within Fairfax County Public Schools—including Transportation, the Office of Multilingual Learners (ESOL Services), the Hispanic Educators Association, Career and Transition Services, Get2Green, the Office of Intervention and Prevention Services, and Safety and Security—are collaborating to create a day filled with engaging and educational activities for all FCPS students. In addition, various student school clubs will be in attendance, showcasing their initiatives and contributions. This year, we're excited to introduce the Student Program Marketplace, a new feature where students will present and sell their handmade goods, with proceeds supporting their respective programs. This initiative is supported and led by Educate Fairfax; a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for Fairfax County Public Schools students
The Summer Extravaganza will feature:
- Activities for children of all ages that inspire curiosity and a love of learning
- Opportunities for adults to learn how to support student well-being and academic success
- A special section of student-led activities
We invite you to attend and engage with our FCPS community.
May 10th, 2025 10 a.m.-2:30p.m. Woodson High School - Parking Lot 9525 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22031
If you are able to attend, REGISTER TODAY!
We look forward to celebrating a summer of learning and growth with you. For more details, please visit our Summer Extravaganza webpage. This event is proudly sponsored by Educate Fairfax!
