A Note from Mrs. Goddin...

Hello MUES Families,

It has been the most incredible week as we celebrated Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! Our school staff was showered with breakfast, treats, pizza & salad, gift cards, flowers, nostalgic 90s memorabilia, and notes of appreciation from both students and families. None of this would be possible without the generous donations from our MUES families.

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for partnering with the McNair PTA  and me to celebrate the most amazing staff! Coming to work as your proud principal is something I look forward to doing each day, not only, because of the amazing children that brighten my day when I greet them in the main lobby each morning, but because of the most selfless, hard working, and professional colleagues I have the pleasure of working alongside. Thank you for recognizing how wonderful they truly are this week!

This past week we also celebrated Bike or Roll to School Day as well as the beginning of our spring bike riding and bike safety unit in PE. A big thank you to both Ms. Luck and Ms. Smith, PE teachers, for providing our Mustangs both of these opportunities!

As we begin the weekend, I would like to extend a very Happy Mother's Day to all of our wonderful MUES mothers! Enjoy being celebrated on your very special day- you deserve it!

Sincerely,

Melissa Goddin

Your Proud Principal

summer

The FCPS Summer Extravaganza is an exciting event that helps families imagine all the possibilities to continue learning over the summer. This is possible by showcasing interactive and immersive activities for children and the power of collaboration across FCPS offices and community partners.

Several departments within Fairfax County Public Schools—including Transportation, the Office of Multilingual Learners (ESOL Services), the Hispanic Educators Association, Career and Transition Services, Get2Green, the Office of Intervention and Prevention Services, and Safety and Security—are collaborating to create a day filled with engaging and educational activities for all FCPS students. In addition, various student school clubs will be in attendance, showcasing their initiatives and contributions. This year, we're excited to introduce the Student Program Marketplace, a new feature where students will present and sell their handmade goods, with proceeds supporting their respective programs. This initiative is supported and led by Educate Fairfax; a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for Fairfax County Public Schools students

The Summer Extravaganza will feature:

  • Activities for children of all ages that inspire curiosity and a love of learning
  • Opportunities for adults to learn how to support student well-being and academic success
  • A special section of student-led activities

We invite you to attend and engage with our FCPS community.

Event Details Date: Saturday, May 10 Time: 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Location: Woodson High School Parking Lot (9525 Main St, Fairfax, VA 22031) REGISTER TODAY!

MUES Book Drive

books

Through the end of the school year, McNair Upper is collecting gently used, high interest children's’ books at all reading levels to support the new McNair Summer Bookmobile! We will visit several sites in the community throughout the summer to offer a free “little free library on wheels” for our students. Staff, students and families may drop off book donations in the designated box in the McNair Upper front office.

We are also seeking financial support to fund this project. If you know of a business that can provide monetary donations to support our students’ summer reading, please reach out to Mallory Janofsky at mljanofsky@fcps.edu for details.

Friendly Reminder: Class Placement Parent/Guardian Input Form for the 25-26 School Year

As administration begins collaborating with classroom teachers to form grade level classes for the 2025-2026 school year, we understand that parent/guardian input is valuable to consider too.

We kindly ask that you do not request specific teachers; rather keep the focus on the type of learning environment and learning style that will support your child's academic and social wellness success.

Interested parents/guardians that would like the opportunity to share their input with administration should do so no later than Friday, May 16th.

Please click on and fill out the appropriate grade level Parent/Guardian Input Form below:
