Principal's Message

As we move towards Graduation on June 4, we are excited to celebrate our end-of-year events. We have recognized our dedicated senior spring athletes. We also look forward to showcasing the incredible talents of our performing arts students in their concerts and performances.

I had the pleasure of joining our Crew Team on the water on Tuesday and am excited to join them tomorrow for States.

We are also proud of our students' efforts as SOL testing has concluded and our AP students are currently in the midst of their exams. Our testing staff has done an outstanding job coordinating the unending details to ensure a successful testing season.

Your continued encouragement during these important times is truly valued. Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful year for all our students. We eagerly anticipate celebrating their achievements as we finish the school year strong.

New Information and Important Reminders

TikTok Challenge

We recently learned of a trending challenge on TikTok called the "Chromebook Challenge." The challenge involves encouraging students to purposefully short out their devices to cause them to catch fire by jamming lead or metal into the charging port, USB port or stabbing the battery. Please speak to your students about this potential safety hazard and possible damage to school property. Not only does this challenge contain the risk of fire or injury, but families will incur costs for damages to their assigned devices. These challenges often seem like harmless pranks or jokes to students, however, the consequences are quite real. Beyond the risk of injury or fire, there's also the potential for loss of access to schoolwork, damaged school division property, and disciplinary consequences. The safety and welfare of students and staff is our top priority and we appreciate your partnership in those efforts.

Spring Testing

The Spring Testing continues through the end of May! All-important testing information and the testing calendar can be found on the Lake Braddock Testing Website. Please note important dates your student may be testing and make every attempt to avoid testing interruptions during the testing blocks.  Please note…being ON TIME is extremely important.  Please plan accordingly for testing days, to include make ups and retakes.  If student missed their SOL or qualify for a retake, emails will be sent from testing.

Any student that has missed an SOL will automatically be rescheduled for our arranged make up dates.  Students will receive an email providing specific dates and locations.

If you have specific questions about testing, please reach out to your student’s counselor or subject specific teacher.

Talking to Teens About Sexting: An Open and Honest Conversation

Sextortion is a type of blackmail used by offenders to acquire additional sexual content from a child, coerce a child into engaging in sexual activity, or obtain money from a child. Children can sometimes become victims of sextortion after sexting with someone they thought they knew and trusted, but NCMEC analysis has found that children who are victims of sextortion are often targeted and blackmailed by an individual they met online. That person may use deceit, coercion, or another method to obtain a nude or sexual image of the child before blackmailing them for more.

For Parents, use these tips to help stop sextortion before it begins.:

  • You should start talking about online manners, or “netiquette,” with your youngest children so they have a good foundation for later lessons.
  • You can talk to young children about not trusting everyone they meet online. By the time they’re teens, they’ll be ready to discuss these risks.
  • Ask questions about their online world and be involved.
  • Tell them that you are always here to help them and if something happens, you will be there for them because they should not go through something like that on their own.
  • Help them identify two or three other trusted adults they can talk to if they do not feel comfortable talking to you.
  • Establish electronic rules: time allowed, free electronics zones (bedroom), free electronic times (dinner, family activities).
  • Learn how to set up privacy settings and how to report inappropriate content.
  • Most importantly, have open, respectful, and meaningful communication with your child.
