As we begin planning for the 2025–2026 school year, we invite your input. Creating class assignments involves careful consideration of numerous factors to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for all students. We recognize that a strong teacher-student match and a balanced classroom dynamic contribute to student success.
If there is additional information about your child—particularly regarding learning style or classroom environment—that you believe would be helpful for school staff to know, please complete the 2025-2026 Class Placement - Family Input Form by Friday, May 23, 2025. This is a firm deadline. If you have more than one child attending Garfield, please complete a separate form for each student. Sharing information about your child is optional.
Please understand that while we value and consider all input, specific teacher requests and/or requests to place your child (or not place your child) with certain students cannot always be honored. We cannot guarantee specific placement requests. Our primary goal is to create well-balanced classes that meet the diverse needs of all students.

Students in grades 3–5 will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests between April 30 and May 30, 2025. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned this year! To help your child do their very best, please make every effort to ensure they are at school on testing days. If possible, we kindly ask that you avoid scheduling vacations or appointments during this window.
If your child will be absent due to an observed religious holiday, just let their teacher know—we’re happy to make arrangements to ensure they can complete their tests at another time.
A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a positive attitude can go a long way in helping your child feel confident and ready. Thank you for your continued support—we're proud of our students and all they've accomplished!
