Sorry for the delay in today’s newsletter — this reporter's laptop seemed to think it was already the weekend and decided to stop working. “When in doubt, reboot” seems to be the mantra that keeps things moving today.

 

In world news, a new Catholic Pope has been elected, Pope Leo XIV. Robert Francis Prevost is an American cardinal who spent much of his career in Peru.

 

In local news today, the Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region has broken ground on a new project, and the City of Kingston is planning to convert a Sydenham Road property into a new modular emergency homeless shelter.

 

And lastly, the weekend spotlight of things to do and see around Kingston includes the Ottawa Redblacks football training camp, which will start at Richardson Stadium, the first time it's taken place outside of Ottawa.

Habitat for Humanity announces new building project in Kingston

Habitat for Humanity Kingston Limestone Region broke ground on a new building project in Kingston Thursday morning. Construction on a semi-detached structure at 225 – 225 Wilson Street will begin by the middle of May and will provide two local families with safe and affordable homes, according to a press release issued May 8.
