President Donald Trump said that decreasing tariffs on China to a still-stiff 80% “seems right” in a post to Truth Social, adding that any reduction would be up to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Trump first signaled the thaw on the 145% tariff on Chinese products Thursday after initially saying he wouldn’t lower the levy ahead of negotiations.

Bessent is holding trade talks with Chinese officials this weekend.
