In response to a recent Times article about the use of artificial intelligence in schools, we asked students: Are students cheating when they use A.I. for help with their schoolwork? Or is it a helpful tool that can support learning?
Ariana, a student in Valley Stream, N.Y., writes: “When I use A.I., often it’s because I genuinely need help with a certain assignment or am stuck with creating new ideas.”
John, a student in St. Peter, Minn., writes: “It’s my opinion that A.I. is similar to a painkiller. It can be helpful at first but eventually it becomes a crutch that you can’t remove.”
Those two quotes reveal the wide range of students’ opinions. We hope you’ll read what students are saying as artificial intelligence makes its way into schools.
