Dear Nawet,
It is with pleasure we invite you to participate in a
high-level side event at the 78th World Health Assembly titled
Eye Health Has 2030 In Sight: New Data, New
Resolution, New Momentum on Thursday, 23 May
2025 from 12:30 to13:50 (Geneva Time) at Palais des Nations, Avenue de
la Paix 14, 1211 Geneva, Switzerland.
Convened by the International Agency for the Prevention of
Blindness (IAPB), and co-hosted by Paraguay, Malaysia, and Slovakia,
together with CBM Christian Blind Mission, this event offers a timely
moment to take stock of global progress and future direction on eye
health.
The World Health Organization will unveil new global data
tracking progress toward the 2030 target on effective refractive error
coverage (eREC). This is the first such update since the targets were
adopted by Member States in 2021, and it provides a crucial evidence
base for accelerating action in eye health.
Alongside the data release, this event will highlight the
resolution on Primary Prevention and Integrated Care
for Sensory Impairments under the WHA 78 agenda item 13.1. This
resolution, initiated by Slovakia and supported by a
growing coalition of Member States, aims to embed eye and hearing care
within national health systems as part of the broader Universal Health
Coverage agenda.
With the momentum building up toward the Global Summit for
Eye Health, we hope you will join us for this important discussion.
Your presence and engagement will be invaluable in shaping the
political commitment and policy alignment needed to ensure vision for
everyone, everywhere.
Please kindly note that attendance at the official side
event requires registration for the World Health Assembly, as the
event will be held within the WHA venue.
